First gained recognition for his work on Showtime’s Emmy and SAG Award-winning “Homeland.” He subsequently played Tom Cooper in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. JOHN PATRICK SHANLEY

Playwright and Director

Plays include Outside Mullingar (Tony nomination), Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Savage in Limbo, Four Dogs and a Bone, Dirty Story and Beggars in the House of Plenty. For Doubt, he received both the Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize. Film: wrote and directed Doubt, with Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams and Viola Davis, which was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Adapted Screenplay, and Joe Versus The Volcano. Other films include Five Corners (Special Jury Prize, Barcelona Film Festival), Alive and “Live From Baghdad” for HBO (Emmy nomination). For Moonstruck, he received both the Writers Guild of America Award and the Academy Award for best original screenplay. In 2009, The WGA awarded Mr. Shanley the Ian McLellan Hunter Award for Lifetime Achievement In Writing.

Is a designer for theatre, film, dance and opera. He has received three Tony Awards and the Merritt Award for Excellence in Design and Collaboration in 2002, was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame in 2004 and received the Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for the Arts in 2006, the Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2007 and the Gaudium Award in 2013.

Simon was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors, was named one of Time Magazine’s “100 People Who Shape Our World” and was awarded the inaugural Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.
